 02.10.29 The Egg Albany, NY

Herbie Hancock Quartet:

I went to this show with Turano.  I think this was the year that American Idol premiered or maybe the second season, regardless I remember going out to dinner at this upscale bar in the Capital district downtown.   This was memorable because the bartender asked us if we were there to audition for the show.  If you knew what I looked like in those days you'd realize how ridiculous a question it was.  Of course we weren't there to audition we were there to experience the magic of the jazz legend herbie Hancock.

The venue is something special, the outside of the building actually looks like an egg on it's side.  The room the show was in reminded me of a college lecture hall.  It held about 700 people at most and for some reason wasn't nearly to capacity.  When the man stepped out onto the stage he insults the crowd with "Well, this isn't Paris" noting how empty the room was.  In my opinion he should have thanked those of us who actually came and given us the show of our lives.  He gave a great performance however the insult remains with me today.  I mentioned earlier that we ate dinner at a bar and the beer caught up with me so for a couple of songs I was in and out a little (I'm not to big to admit it).   This was a great time with an excellent friend,  I'm hoping for a few more experiences like this Turano!
