ILE potential enhancements
COREY Please edit in BLUE
EUN please edit in Green
Steve will edit in RED
ADMIN SIDE:
- database redesigned with relations (relational database) for cleaner database.
- need a new look so that it can go beyond the university and have a couple of elements that can be used by institutions for branding (May not have to do this, invesitgate!)
- admin -->student side--> admin: this path currently takes you back in as an instructor however you do not have any access to anything. Does this leave us open to anything further? Security issues?
- Are you sure and successful messages everywhere on both sides (admin: Class.aspx assigning quiz, modifying quiz, assigning Assignment/Introduction and modifying, Assigning tutorials and modifying, adding or modifying sections. Grade page (Admin/Default.aspx) When you send a quiz or assignment via email, comment on an assignment. Tutorial.aspx – add or modify a tutorial, users.aspx – when you add, modify, or delete a user. Quizzes.aspx – add, modify, a quiz. Database.aspx – every option needs confirmation message!!!
- Get entire records out of the database (and all their remnants)
- change the color of directions on all pages to indicate that they are directions.
- Add a page that lists all student actions, that is for each student be able to generate a page that lists which tutorials he/she followed the links to, all submissions and login/out information. Browser, operating system etc.
- change the assigning quizzes section so the time as well as the date appear on the student side, the time is key because it alerts students about the the midnight change over which is frequently used
class page
- have default directions able to be turned on and off (checkbox?) for both ASA, and ASI and on add a class page for default class.aspx directions
- make the logic easier to follow for when things can be changed at the class level versus the section level
- Provide a message when trying to edit something at the class level rather than the section level indicating that changes won’t take affect and indicate that changes need to happen at the section level (too confusing as is).
- add optional area for due date on assignments
- examine the logic particularly in the tutorials, and quiz areas, why can't directions for a tutorial be changed at the class level, after the initial add?
- Make it so that we can force a change across all sections of a given class, some sort of override
- Add pop ups on field titles e.g. class title, class subtitle, etc. that show where on the page the info entered will appear
- Have some sort of override option that can force a change at the class level.
- Do not show default directions until after the tutorial has been added to the class. follows the same logic as the rest of the flow. update:!!change the wysiwyg to a label that just shows the default instructions
- Have the ability to order tutorials as they appear on the user side.
- Enhance granular control of the time that Quizzes turn off to the minute level (10/16)
- Add ability to disable the submit button on Assignments (ASAs), with an accompanying message to the effect of "The submission deadline has passed, submissions are no longer being accepted". (10/16)
Quiz page:
1. have the ability to copy someone else’s quiz then apply it as a new quiz with a new name
a. then have the ability to apply it with a new name (new name would be required)
b. modify it
2. has to interact with the tutorial page to get quiz questions automatically
a. Has to interact with the class page (when you add tutorials)
b. Ability to select which of the pre-loaded quiz questions desired to be included in the bank of questions for that quiz on a particular quiz (think check boxes for exclusion)
3. record students choices as well as correct and incorrect
4. Add an additional area on the quiz page to add questions not related to the tutorials directly, (in the event that tutorials aren’t the basis for the quiz, or that conceptual questions are added that wouldn’t be affiliated with a particular tutorial)
5. Make the quiz tool more robust in options for questions
a. Multiple answers?
6. add directions on the quiz page indicating that at least one question must be required.
7. Learnring Mode. (When students are taking quiz, ILE tells students whether they got the questions right or not instantly. That way, it's more for Learning not for Grading.) Instructor can choose between Learning mode and Grading mode.
8. Quiz Manager. It manages Quizzes. Allow Import and export of quiz. Creating Quiz, Modifying Quiz.
9. enhance quiz question capability
10. add the ability to change the name of the hyperlink that displays to students. (12/17)
tutorial page:
- when you add a tutorial we need to be able to affiliate quiz questions that go with that tutorial
- need to be able to add or remove quiz questions associate with that tutorial
- Possible: Desired? Add a time to take this tutorial field??
- make sure every tutorial has an intermediary page with directions filled in.
- toggle default instructions on the admin tutorial piece.
- Disable the continue to tutorial button for tutorials that do not have url (Eun checkbox idea)
- add auto stat counter to indicate how many students have visited tutorials by date and class, may need an entirely new statistics section
Login Stats Page:
- after running a search and getting the results have the ability to mouse-over a user and see:
- the class they were logged into (potentially 2 or more [slim chance but chance nonetheless)
- what they submitted (which Assignment or quiz [and score])
- more What else?
- similar to the student side but for admins to check on instructors
- added comments, and the number of
- emailed quiz grades, method (class or individual)
- average time on line for students in a given search (just a simple of average time logged in during a session)
- Have the ability for admins to look at logins for an entire multi section class without having to go sedtion by section
Instructor page:
- alphabetize the lists
- last modified date for instructors
- ability to give access to all available sections of a given class with 1 click
Grade Page:
- email the assignment and the comments to students.
- email student quiz grades with their answer as well as what is right or wrong (how big is too big for our database)
- arrange by options (ID #, last name, first name, grade, timestamp)
- these need to be optional
- change the view highest sort to be an optional sort and have quizzes display after the choice of standard.
- include average grade for the quizzes (each individually)
- include an optional graph of when students completed the quiz (at the section level)
- include an optional graph indicating when students completed a particular assignment
- Generate overall quiz average for the class/section (option I see at the bottom of the page)
- When viewing quiz question results make it so that the HTML formatting doesn't show
- When looking at ASAs include a column indicating if a comment has been made on a students submission. This will assist instructors who are working with large classes. (10/16)
Evaluation page:
- Have a display so that an entire evaluation can be viewed without scrolling (see current display to understand)
- be able to graph likert-scale style questions for assessment. (across classes, sections, semesters, etc)
Maintenance page:
1. make the class maintenance message assignable by class and section (9/23/08).
USER SIDE:
- track # of students going to tutorials.
- Can we track number of students following the links to outside tutorials? I think Eun mentioned we could. How? Can it be done through links on the directions page?
- add a link or option in class menu that asks “don’t know what section” that links them to course schedule
- On the quiz page where the due date is displayed have it display the date and time (right now its a bit confusing for hte user).
- make sure html formatting doesn't show on student side when using a MAC
- Make sure everything works for mac users using safari
- make instructions on the user side class.aspx page optional. (make it a check box on the admin side)
- move login to the front
- list of favorites for users
- Strip out ASA and ASI terms
Instructor side:
-
Give instructors the ability to assign and modify due dates, and reopen student submissions.
Questions to answer Processes to consider:
- When the class is created and the tutorials added this should generate a potential quiz that can be accessed on the quiz page that affiliates it with the class (auto named). Next, you go to the quiz page and select the quiz questions you’d like included in your quiz bank for that quiz. Additional questions need to be able to be added at this point too.
- If size of the database is a concern, could we set up something so that when a new class is added a new instance of a database is created so that each class has its own database that is connected by a central database? Does this show my ignorance?
- Can we easily make basic graphs indicating the time a quiz was taken to the scores for a given hour range?
- ILE Lite? What do we want? Do we want it as part of this enhancement? Can it be derivative or does it need to be its own design? Everything but Assignment? How about rather than creating another “lite” version just have a second instance with a different look and I suppose we can disengage some of the features.
- New look without the university template. Ideas?
- make code modular so it can be reused in other projects.
- Always include due date
- Optimize for Safari and Chrome
- rework left side nav
- citation styles
- writing program resources
- minimize what is there
First Time Setup Wizard
- When ILE is implemented to other institutions for the first time, first time setup wizard will popup for setting up Admin User account and other configurations.
- Default Admin account with Default page. When user is logged on with that account, it shows setup page and after setup, Default Admin account is disabled.
- We need to connet the class time to sections to assist with GenEd classes where studetns select the wrong section. e.g. select GenEd 110, then section 1 M,W 10:30 eun let me know if this isn't 100% clear or if we need to consider a different approach for this. The problem is that instructors are frustrated that students are entering info on the wrong sections and believe that if they had the time of the class as well that would make it easier for students (even though they'll select this only once in the new version).11/13
Login Page
- WSU Login Tab and Non-WSU Login Tab
- Remember the last tab user used. (using cookie) (No security concerns)
-
-
Right-After-Login Page (Customizable Class List Page)
- Show Upcoming Assignments. Including Tutorials that Students gotta take, Quiz, and Essay.
-
User Error Report
- When Error Occurs, instead of showing Plain "Error has occurred page" Application gives a user which allows them to write Admins about what they were doing and how they got an error.
